North Side Hellion

Vice, Loyalty, and Passion in the Roaring Twenties

My tale of a young Irish American man's dance with duty, more well-known devils, and a winsome dame during Chicago Prohibition is now available for listening ears as an audiobook.

For regular readers, this doesn't come as news, but I've gained a number of insights as a writer and a storyteller that I haven't yet put in the public sphere or on my fans' radars.

Hearing a story that's been spun in my head spoken with the pacing and characterization of a veteran narrator is cathartic. Most people who know me might say I can be an intense perfectionist underneath a smart-alecky veneer. This can make me a dedicated or difficult coworker, dependent on perspective.

My choice to work with narrator, Philip Benoit, turned out well. My perfectionism turned out to be more of an asset than a pain in the ass as I reviewed the text, sentence by sentence, chapter by chapter.

Aiden McCarthy's snark, his mother Margaret's chutzpah, his sweetheart Sophia's gumption, and the smarm of gangsters from Dean O'Banion to Al Capone needed the right spark between historical sources, author viewpoint, and inspiration to drive the story.

In addition to working with me to bring Prohibition characters to life, Philip helped catch mistakes I'd missed in my manuscript. Bringing North Side Hellions historical 1920s Chicago sensibility was more enjoyable than feeling like a task. Philip agrees, I think.

The initial response has been positive. Audiobook narrator Carl D. Hausman calls North Side Hellion "a complex and believable story about a gangster-in-the-making."

For lovers of historical fiction, adventure, and coming of age stories, North Side Hellion audiobook is now available for your listening enjoymet through Apple iTunes, Audible, and Amazon.

I've a limited number of Audible promotional codes for complimentary copies for listener/readers who would care to leave me an unbiased review. Please contact me here between now and August 22, 2017 if interested.

Please have a grand summer and stay well-read!
